Alternate Format Requests for Students and Instructors with Disabilities

Files requested via the ATN or Cengage should follow within 5 to 15 business days of the submission of your request. If files are not available or will be delayed, a staff member will contact you via e-mail. If an e-file does not exist for the title you are seeking, we tell you how to obtain a desk copy and will provide permission to create an alternate version of the book for use by your student. NOTE: During our peak seasons, our file fulfillment time may be increased. If 15 business days have passed, contact us with your request ID to check on the status of your request.

If you requested files from ATN, contact our Fulfillment team. Select Message the Publisher under the Message tab of your ATN request.

You may receive files by one of the following methods:

• FTP: You will receive an e-mail with a link to our FTP site and instructions on how to download the files. You have 8 days from the date the files were sent to download them.
• E-mail: Files smaller than 10 MB will be attached in the e-mail. For files larger than 10 MB, you will receive a link to download your files. You have 8 days from the date the files were sent to download them.
• ATN Server: The file will be posted to the ATN server, where you can download it. For help, select Message the Publisher under the Messages tab of your ATN request. Files will be ready for download once your request status has changed from Pending Fulfillment to Fulfilled.

For most titles, Cengage has low-res PDFs available. If Word files are required, note this in the “Detailed description of request” field of the online request form. If possible, we will request a Word extraction on your behalf. Note: The time required to produce a Word extraction depends on our vendors' capacity. Generally, it requires an additional 15 to 20 business days.

If you are a Premium Member of the AccessText Network, files in your required alternate format may have already been created by another organization. You may request to exchange files via ATN.

If files are unavailable, you will receive permission to scan the text to create a digital file for use by the student.

While Cengage does not offer audio, Braille, or large print versions of our texts, we will grant permission to have our e-files converted into the format appropriate for your student.

• If you are in the K-12 sector, check NIMAC for alternate formats.

If you need files or permission to create an alternate version, a request can be submitted at AccessText Network or to us directly via our online request form.

Disability Services Office Representative - Requests for materials in alternate formats must be submitted by a Disability Services Office Representative. If you are new to our system, we may contact you to verify your position at your institution.

Alternate E-mail - We will contact you if our archive department receives bounce-back notifications when trying to deliver files to the address provided in your request.

Your Request ID was provided on the last page of the request form. The Request ID was also included in a confirmation e-mail. If you did not receive a Request ID, resend your request or email [email protected].

If you are using Adobe Acrobat’s Read Out Loud and the file is reading "blank," consider other free PDF readers like Foxit for Windows PC or Apple Preview for Mac.

Most likely the "Commenting" in Adobe Reader has been enabled. "Commenting" can easily be disabled by choosing "Save a Copy" from the File menu in Acrobat Pro. This will create a new copy of the file without the Commenting restrictions. If you need help, contact the archivist who sent you the files.
