Cengage Announces Further Business Travel Restrictions for All U.S. Employees

BOSTON— UPDATED March 17, 2020 — Cengage CEO Michael E. Hansen today issued the following statement regarding further restrictions on business travel for U.S. employees.

“The health and safety of our employees and customers are paramount. It is imperative that we do everything possible to help prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

“I have informed our U.S. employees that we are prohibiting all business travel until further notice due to this rapidly evolving public health crisis. This applies to our Higher Education & Skills, K12 and Gale businesses and includes travel by plane, train and car to any face-to-face customer meetings. Our employees have been advised to transition their in-person meetings to video or phone calls when possible. If this is not possible, then the meeting must be postponed. We have also implemented a global ban on all business travel.

“The gravity of this unprecedented situation demands strong action despite this being a critical period in our selling season, as our fiscal year ends on March 31. This travel ban is an expansion of our current U.S. policy that restricts non-essential business travel, promotes flexible work-from-home/telecommuting and limits in-office presence to only those employees deemed essential.

“The Cengage COVID-19 Response Team is vigilantly monitoring guidance from public health leaders and national, state and local government authorities. We will adjust our policies as conditions warrant.”
