Cengage and Tatweer Company Deliver Successful English Language Teacher Training in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and BOSTON, July 24, 2017 — Cengage, an education and technology company, and Tatweer Company for Educational Services (T4edu), delivered two successful professional development programs to Ministry of Education English teachers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Beginning in November 2016, Cengage provided teachers of English with access to National Geographic Learning’s ELTeach, an online, integrated professional development, assessment and certificate program.

“We recognize the recent successful implementation of professional development programs for Ministry of Education English teachers in Saudi Arabia and commend the country’s dedication to improving teaching and learning,” said Alexander Broich, Executive Vice President, Cengage International. “Our partnership with T4edu and the Ministry of Education provided training that benefits students and teachers in Saudi Arabia. We see this program as a model for others seeking effective online training opportunities for public sector teachers across regions.”

The English for Teaching program is aimed at improving the level of English for the classroom and focuses on online speaking and listening. The program was met with extremely high satisfaction levels from participants with 96.1% of teachers indicating they would recommend the course to a colleague.

The Professional Knowledge for ELT program focused on classroom methodology and lesson planning. 98% of teachers noted they would recommend the course to others. Upon completion of the course, teachers had the opportunity to take either the Test of English-for-Teaching (TEFT™) or the Test of Professional Knowledge (TPK™) assessments, developed by US-based Educational Testing Service (ETS).

T4edu Chief Officer for Content and Technology Solutions Dr. Nasser Al-Uwaishiq said, “The dedication and commitment of the participating teachers ensured the success of the programs. It is pleasing to hear that teachers have been using the techniques and language gained through the courses to benefit student learning.”

“The successful implementation of ELTeach in Saudi Arabia and the satisfaction among English language teachers is a great achievement. ELTeach is an online course designed to help teachers improve their pedagogy skills and classroom language,” said Abdulrahman Al Furaih of the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia “Teachers became more confident in their everyday practice and more knowledgeable about what they are doing. I hope more teachers enroll in this program in the future.”

“The online, self-paced access of ELTeach was successful in delivering a time-efficient and flexible resource to Ministry of Education English teachers across 15 educational regions,” said Dennis Hogan, General Manager, National Geographic Learning, a part of Cengage. “We look forward to exploring other opportunities to scale quality learning opportunities to support our partners in Saudi Arabia and around the world.”
