We spoke with Casey R., Sales Consultant, about why she is passionate about providing educators with solutions that empower students to attain academic success.
How does your role and the work you do help students and teachers?
My role is to support the School business of Cengage Group, providing K-12 schools and educators in New York with high-quality, standards-aligned curriculum materials that support effective teaching and learning. By understanding the unique needs of teachers and students, we offer solutions that help educators deliver engaging, structured lessons while ensuring that students are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve academic success.
In your role interacting with students and teachers on school campuses, what is one of the most memorable and impactful experiences you've had?
After introducing a school district to a program that was highly adaptable and full of hands-on, real-world applications, the teachers shared their excitement about how the new resources helped their students connect the material to their everyday lives. I recall one teacher telling me how a lesson they had been struggling to teach for months suddenly "clicked" with the students, thanks to the interactive activities and clear scaffolding in the curriculum. The students, who had previously been disengaged, were now excited about learning, actively participating and asking thoughtful questions.
What motivated you to work at Cengage Group and in edtech?
I was motivated to work in edtech because I saw an opportunity to make a tangible, positive impact on education. Education has the power to transform lives, and by working with a company like Cengage Group, I’m able to contribute to that transformation by helping educators access the best possible curriculum materials for their students. Cengage’s commitment to delivering innovative and engaging learning solutions aligns with my passion for empowering teachers and students.
How does working in sales at Cengage Group differ from your previous sales experiences, and what aspects of working in edtech sales do you find most fulfilling?
Working in sales at Cengage Group differs from my previous sales experiences in several ways, primarily due to the focus on education and the long-term impact of the products we offer. Working in sales at Cengage Group has created a deeper sense of purpose. Here, the goal is not just to sell a product but to help educators and students succeed in the classroom and in their learning journeys.
Based on your experience, what is the strongest element of Cengage Group’s culture?
I believe the strongest element of Cengage Group’s culture is its deep commitment to collaboration and innovation. From the very beginning, it was clear that Cengage Group fosters an environment where teamwork is highly valued, and everyone is encouraged to share ideas, expertise and insights. For educators, staying updated with the latest developments ensures they can deliver the most effective and impactful lessons to their students. For students, continuous learning fosters a growth mindset, encouraging them to see learning as an ongoing process that extends beyond formal education. It teaches them to be curious, resilient and open to new ideas.
