Education Empowers: Jayshree Harangee

Jayshree Harangee is a firm believer in the transformative power of education. Growing up and residing in South Africa, she has personally witnessed how education can profoundly impact individuals' lives, enabling them to attain financial stability and a greater sense of fulfillment.

During her educational journey, Jayshree was introduced to SAM, a platform offering from Cengage, our Higher Education business. Reflecting on her experience, Jayshree shared, "Cengage has played a significant role in preparing me for the workforce by enhancing my digital literacy skills." Inspired by the content, she even became a co-author of our adapted version of the Microsoft Office 365 textbook, localizing the content specifically for South Africa.

Today, Jayshree teaches at the University of Pretoria, where she utilizes Cengage materials to enhance the digital literacy skills of her first-year students, representing a true full circle moment!

Dedication to Education

Jayshree is a dedicated lifelong learner. She has successfully completed her Honors and Masters degrees in Neuroanatomy and is currently pursuing her PhD. The profound impact of education on her own life has inspired her to make it her career, teaching at the University of Pretoria.

While juggling the demands of continuing her education and working full-time hasn't always been easy, Jayshree believes that she is building a solid foundation for her future. Her academic achievements have not only contributed to her personal growth but have also opened doors for professional advancement, motivating her to set even more ambitious goals.

 

Digital Proficiency

Growing up, Jayshree had limited exposure to the digital world. However, during her undergraduate years, she discovered the value of Cengage materials in enhancing her digital literacy skills. Through trainings and practical assessments, she gained confidence in her abilities, and felt better prepared for the demands of the modern workforce. Upon completing the course, Jayshree received a digital badge, certifying her proficiency in digital skills. Recognizing the significance of this achievement, she added the badge to her resume and LinkedIn profile. This addition proved to be highly beneficial during her job application process, showcasing her digital proficiency to potential employers.

 

Empowering First-Year Students

In her role at the University of Pretoria, Jayshree frequently encounters first-year students who, like her, have had limited digital exposure. However, Jayshree has observed "remarkable progress" among these students after using Cengage materials. She shared that her students show enthusiasm for learning and willingly dedicate extra time to engage with the content, recognizing the benefits it brings.
