Our History as an Edtech Company
Cengage Group's roots in education can be traced back more than one hundred years. And as early as the 1990s, the company began to invest in digital. During that time, our businesses began to adapt to the rise of courseware, internet accessibility, IT systems and the introduction of electronic books and readers.
Just as we do today, we promised to change our industry. And just like today, we believed in better – by challenging standard practices and ineffective conventions in the publishing industry and among edtech companies.
In the 2000s, we began enabling a new generation of learners with innovative education technology. We developed our DNA as an edtech company in technology and digital innovation designed to help learners and instructors succeed. Part of our mission is to make education more accessible to everyone through online learning platforms.
The Shift to Online Learning
Resolute in the belief that education delivered and supported by technology creates an immersive, engaging experience for the student, we have transformed from a traditional publisher to a digital-first innovator, providing our quality content through online learning. Learners can now access online courses through learning platforms and brands including MindTap, WebAssign, ed2go, Infosec and more.
As an edtech company, our digital sales continue to grow, surpassing $1 billion in digital revenue. Since August 2018, over 5.2M students have saved nearly $630 million on course materials with Cengage Unlimited, the first-of-its-kind online courseware subscription for students.
