3 Ways Libraries Make an Impact
In celebration of National Library Week, starting April 23, we’re highlighting some of our favorite library-focused blogs from Cengage Group’s Gale, a global provider of research and learning resources. Gale offers thousands of resources like databases, eBooks, primary source content, eLearning solutions and other digital reference materials available through libraries around the world.
Here are just a few stories from Gale about the difference libraries are making in local communities:
1. Libraries Help Adult Learners Achieve Their Goals
Jenifer Adams has been a dedicated patron of the Healdton Community Library in Oklahoma since she was a child. After dropping out of high school, she always wanted to go back to get her diploma, but life seemed to get in the way. The branch manager at her library told her about the Excel Adult High School program and she was able to complete her degree while working and taking care of her three children. Her library even threw her a graduation ceremony!

When 29-year-old Jasmine Edmundson heard that her local public library, in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and Gale, was offering five Tulsa County residents up to 24 months of online, self-paced programs through Excel Adult High School, she signed up. The mother of six soon learned that she would get another chance to earn her diploma.
